Some Like It Wild (The Wild Ones #2) by M Leighton

"Leighton put together an endearing romance that's full of funny, sweet and steamy moments." ~herding cats & burning soup
Laney Holt is a preacher’s daughter. A good girl. Her only goal was to get married, have babies, and live happily ever after, just like her parents. Only that didn’t happen. The two people closest to her betrayed her, and Laney’s dreams came crashing down. Now she’s left with an empty space she doesn’t know how to fill. Until she meets Jake Theopolis, a daredevil with a death wish who has heartbreaker written all over him.

Jake has no interest in thinking beyond the here and now. All he wants out of life is the next rush, the next “feel-good” thing to keep his mind off the pain of his past. His latest rush? Showing Laney there’s more to life than being a good girl—and that going bad can be so much fun. Her only concern now is how she can ever hope to satisfy the wild side of a boy like Jake. She’s looking forward to trying. And so is Jake.

So. We've got one covergasm worthy cover. A notoriously bad boy hero. And a notoriously good girl heroine. A little bit of a past together and a whole lotta time up close and personal that gets a little...wild and a whole lot sexy. Yep. I had a pretty good time with Some Like It Wild as Jake *mmmm Jake* helps Laney let down her hair and have a little naughty time for once in her life.

Laney and Jake have both come back home to their small town for their own reasons. And now years after they shared a kiss and a spark of attraction the two are working together as Laney inventories his family orchard for a legal case. But that spark is still there and things quickly go from all business to a spot of fun too.
"I'm going to be working here."

"Working here? Doing what?"

"Fighting fires. I'm a fireman."

Oh precious God! He's a fireman.

Big, long hoses and sweaty skin flash through my mind.

With a wink that says he knows exactly what I'm thinking, Jack backs out of the parking lot. "So if you have any fires that need to be..put out, just let me know."
Heh. I really liked Laney. I enjoyed being in her head and cracked up over some of her thoughts. Yes, she's the "good girl" but it worked. She's always wanted a husband, children and a family of her own and never felt the need to really let loose. And I can totally get that. But after her world and dream came crashing down around her she needs to pretty much find herself and wants to have a little fun doing it.

Aaaaand enter Jake who finds her...fascinating for some unexplainable reason but is more than willing to go with it. Jake's had a rough go and keeps everyone at a distance after the loss of his mom when he was young but he's a good guy despite his reputation and I enjoyed him. He's judged by so many and so unfairly and I just ached for him and what was finally revealed about his past. I really enjoyed watching him with Laney. His reactions to her. How he helped her. How he struggled. He was just a nice pairing for her.

"Aaah!" she squeals when the hot water hits her skin. She starts to hop back out, but I grab her arm to still her.

"Just give it a second. It only stings at first, then it'll do great things for your muscles. And...other things."

I sit down and spread my legs, holding my arms out wide for her to join me. When she does, she hisses.

"I didn't need to be on the pill, did I?"

"Huh?"

"There's no way a single sperm could possibly survive this. And obviously you've done this before."

"Once or twice."

After a few seconds, her voice sounds less pained. "So, is this a fetish?"

"Is what a fetish?"

"Luring unsuspecting women to your home and then boiling them."

"Oh, come on. It's not that bad, drama queen. Besides, isn't it worth it to share a hot bath with all this?" I say, curling my fingers in toward myself and giving her my cheesiest, most arrogant smile.

Boldly, she peruses me, which is kind of a turn-on when she lingers on my cock, which is nestled against her hip. "We'll see."
While some bits were serious there was a good bit of humor as well as the two explored different things together. I loved that. Chuckled a good bit and teared up a little in other spots. It was a nice balance. I also really liked how things were explored. It felt natural and not out of character really for either of them. Laney was still the good girl but just a little freer and cautiously spreading her wings which was nice. And Jake was letting someone in and loving them even though he didn't realize it at the time. Big steps for him.

The sexy steamy bits...were numerous. And I enjoyed quite a few of them. Some really had me fanning myself--think naughty daring moment in a fire station--and biting my lip. But there were others that had me going 'whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up there. Marshmallow'd fingers do NOT need to be going THERE! I mean. ::cringe::
Thankfully most were of the smexy variety but weirdly even with the yummy sexy bits that happened...this time around I actually preferred the bits that were non steamy. Go figure. Yes, yes. I know. Hell must have truly frozen over with this crazy winter weather we've had. ;)

All in all, Some Like It Wild was an enjoyable read. It wasn't too wild or out there but Leighton put together an endearing romance that's full of funny, sweet and steamy moments. It suited these two quite a bit. I wanted to shake them a couple times. And a few others just cheer them on for standing up for themselves against others and learning to live their own lives and not the ones put on them or expected by other people. So. A pretty good read and one I'm glad I gave a try in the end.
