A to Z Challenge-- Hope Chest

My coffee table is actually a "hope chest".

About a decade ago my grandmom gave it to her. It's heavy and smells amazing and is one of my favorite things.

It's stacked full of all my soft winter blankets. <3

Part of why I love it is because it's been in our family for ages. I called my grandmom to make sure I had all the specifics and she was like "I can't believe I gave it away. I love that chest. Why did I think I should give it away?"

::snort::

So, yes. It's been well loved. Before my grandmom had it it belonged to HER grandmom. So my great-great grandmom. How neat is that?

Her name was Fufu (foo-foo). Well, her nickname. lol Now, my mom would say Fufu was a bit of a bitch and, yeah, I may agree with her. There was a thing with her husband's first wife's (who was her cousin) baby girl's baby girl (so like her grandchild by law?) and disowning her because of who her mama married. Some definite catty bitch happening. But she had fabulous taste in furniture. Anywho, when she passed away that was one of only two things my grandmom wanted when asked.


I really don't know how I snuck it away from her she loves it so much. lol We think she needed room and in a moment of weakness sent it up here. Heh A win for me and my stockinged feet each winter. It's the perfect spot for a cup of hot chocolate and kicking your feet up in front of the fire.
