3.5 stars-- It Happened on Love Street (Everland, Georgia #1) by Lia Riley

A dog walker afraid of dogs, a hunky veterinarian who's... quite fond of them, a quirky meddlesome town, a mini treasure hunt and a little love. Yes, It Happened on Love Street was a charming time in small town Georgia.

Bookish Bits & Bobbles
Okay, so, basically Pepper moved to Everland, Georgia for a clerkship with the local judge. Problem is...he's a total wanker and gives it to someone else last minute and she's...out a job and stuck in a cutsy little Georgia town with no funds and a damn hot neighbor she really doesn't have time for. Lord help her.
Pepper & Rhett
I liked both Pepper and Rhett. He's pretty sexy and an animal lover (yay!) and just a good guy even if he tries to blend into the background. And Pepper is like a wrecking ball. lol Her life is pretty much all shook up and she's trying to figure out her next step. She's a care taker and loves the people and eventually animals in her life. She's totally earnest and gets herself into crazy little jams.
The Romancey Bits
I liked them as a couple. They had fun chemistry and, well, proximity since they were neighbors. A little naughty happening, a little sweet happening, some funny moments and touching ones. I would have liked a wee bit more heat but they did steam things up. Things did get a little syrupy sweet but, really, you've got a hero named Rhett and they live on Love Street. lol
The Town

Lord love em they're quirky. They love playing chess at the dog park, love their pirates, are nosy as all hell and are just lively and, yeah, quirky. They'd totally be the type to make you hang your head and lovingly shake it because oh my word are they special. This is the hero and one of the older ladies. lol
"A dang armadillo tried to cross into the road. I swerved and this here tree was in my way."

"How many fingers and I holding up?" Rhett waved two in her face.

"How 'bout countin' this one instead, sugar?" She popped him the bird.

Rhett gave a relieved laugh. She appeared her usual self.

Some Quibbles
I did have a couple little issues. There was something about the writing-- word choice, flow-- that was just slightly off for me. I spent pretty much the whole time feeling a little out of sync with what I was reading which slowed things down.
I also thought Pepper got over her fear of dogs WAY too easily.
Overall, though, It Happened on Love Street was a charming small town romance that has me wanting to spend a little more time with he quirky citizens of Everland, Georgia.

Pepper Knight moved to Everland, Georgia, as step one in her plan for a successful legal career. But after this big-city gal's plans go awry, going home with her tail between her legs isn't an option. So when the town vet-and her sexy new neighbor-offers Pepper a temporary dog-walking job, she jumps at the chance. No one needs to know that man's best friend is her worst nightmare . . . or that Everland's hot animal whisperer leaves her panting.

The last thing Rhett Valentine wants is to be the center of small-town gossip. After his first love left him at the altar, he's been there, done that. These days, life is simple, just the way he likes it. But sultry southern nights get complicated once sparks fly between him and the knockout next door. When she proposes a sexy, secret fling-all the deliciousness and none of the prying neighbors-it seems too good to be true. And it is. Because Pepper's determined to leave Love Street, and when she goes, she just might take his heart with her . . .
